The book definitely won't last as an heirloom. It also hadn't been cut out properly, so I recommend carefully going through the interactive elements and prepping them before gifting to a child, to ensure they don't get ripped. They simply aren't well made - the pop up elements hardly pop up, and the final one, the turban, is so delicate that it will surely be damaged very quickly.
As they are so thick, they distort the pages around them. This really spoils their appearance, and unless the child reading is very careful, these will quickly fall out of the book and be lost. There are loose bits of tissue paper or card stuck on to protect the rest of the book from the these elements.
I think the book would be much better without them. The interactive elements are the most disappointing. Nice hardcover bindings should stay open at the page they are on. The pages are thin and the book needs to to pulled and held open at each page. There is no dust cover and the hardcover had somewhat bashed edges and crumpled corners, despite being brand new, and the seams where the book opens already look old and will probably become very battered over time. To compensate for this, it is cheaply printed and bound. The sheer quantity of colour illustrations makes the book great value. The book is beautiful, with fairytale-style colour illustrations on pretty much every page. I love the look of the MInalima books and this was the cheapest at only £16, so seemed like a good way to try them out.
